      In January 1947, Denys Anderson and Jack Duffy 

      together with Tot Dickinson and Derek McFarlane

      met in The Greyhound Inn , Newgate Street Morpeth

      and formed Morpeth Harriers.

1947

Ernie Slaughter joins the club.

1948

Morpeth win their first ever prize when the Youths team
tie for 1st place at the Gateshead Congars road race.

1950

Tommy Dunn, who later became club secretary was the
first Morpeth Harrier to cross the line at the 1950
Morpeth to Newcastle road race.

After only three years in existence Morpeth Harriers asked to
host the 1950 North Eastern Cross Country Championships
at Cottingwood Common.
Ernie Slaughter finished second and Tommy Dunn was 15th

Ernie Slaughter wins Sherman Cup and Heaton Road Race.

1952

At the South Shields Road Races in March 1952,
Tom Horne won the Youths race in 15m19s.
Ernie Slaughter won the Senior Mens 6 Mile event in 30m47s.

1953

Club members have trip to Highland Games in Edinburgh.

At the South Shields Road Races in March 1953,
Morpeth Harriers won The Laing Trophy for the first time.
Team members included, Eddie Thompson, Ted Aisbitt,
Tim Stanners, Tom Horne and Ernie Slaughter who won
the Senior Mens race and broke the course record.

Returning from injury, Ernie Slaughter in his comeback race
wins a Harrier League meeting and is second at the next one.
Then he finished in the first 10 in every other Harrier League
meeting, a record which still stands.

1954

Morpeth Harriers move to Grange House Field in Morpeth
next to the rugby club.

Gordon Prior wins the Junior High Jump event at a
Newcastle Track League meeting with a jump of 6ft.

At the Northumberland and Durham 10 mile Road Race
Championships in Belington,
Tot Dickinson won the race and Peter Carmichael finished 10th
Ted Aisbitt finished 2nd at the Brampton to Carlisle road race.

1956

Morpeth Harriers add AC to their name

Jim Alder joins the club.

At a Harrier League meeting at North Shields
Jim Alder wins Youths race.

1958

Ernie Slaughter becomes club secretary.

On a list of marathon runners compiled by N.U.T.S
Peter Carmichael was 24th with a best time of 2hr21m15.

1959

Peter Carmichael was first Morpeth finisher at the Morpeth
to Newcastle Road Race he finished 32nd in 1hr16m57

First club pavilion is opened and AGM held there for first time.

Club had 85 members.

1961

Tom Aisbitt finished sixth at the Morpeth to Newcastle Road Race,
Ron Bell finished 25th and Peter Carmichael was 33rd

1962

Jim Alder competes in the Morpeth to Newcastle road race for the first time.

At a Harrier League meeting at Gosforth Park, Doug Cockburn finished
third in the Youths race.

At the YMCA Track Championships held at Gateshead.
Tom Nichols won the 220yds event, Joe Wake was second and
Derek Patten finished 3rd
In the Senior mile race, Derek Patten and Billy Morrison were equal second
Morpeth won the 4x400yds event and Doug Cockburn won the Junior mile.
Jim Alder won the 3000 steeplechase.

1965

Jim Alder wins the Morpeth to Newcastle road race for the first time.
Also gained a World Championship record at 30K on the track.

1966

Tommy Horne finished 17th at the Sherman Cup.

Jim Alder wins Brampton to Carlisle road race for third time.

Jim Alder wins Gold Medal at Commonwealth Games in Kingston, Jamaica.

1967

The clubs Junior Men comprising of Maurice Brown, Dave Grey,
Dicky Tinlin and Bob Appleby win first place at the NECCA Championships.

1969

Present pavilion opened.

Jim Alder wins the Morpeth to Newcastle road race for the second time.

1970

Jim Alder wins the Morpeth to Newcastle road race for the third time.

1971

Jim Alder wins the Morpeth to Newcastle road race for the fourth time.

1972

Morpeth Borough Council lay down a 400metre six lane
ash track on Morpeth Common.

Mike Bateman joins the club.

1974

Jim Alder wins the Morpeth to Newcastle road race for the fifth time.

1975

Mike Bateman becomes club secretary.

1978

16year olds Paul Reed and Jake Harper join the club.

1979

Don Speight becomes a member of the club.

1980

Morpeth overtake North Shields Poly to become the regions top
mens track and field team.

1981

The very first London Marathon takes place.

The Great North Run takes place for the first time.

Morpeth join National Young Athletes league.

1983

First ‘Killy 8’ road race held at Killingworth and the Colts race is
won by Alan Shepherd.

Albert James joins the club and wins AAA 800Mts English Schools Championships.

Don Speight wins 10,000mt race at GRE Cup in Edinburgh.

1984

Club gains entry into British Athletics League.

Don Speight sets course record for Blyth Sands race.

Lisa Reilly joins the club, and becomes Inter area, Inter-Counties,
North Eastern, Northern and National cross-country champion.

1985

Don Speight wins Heaton Road Races.

Lisa Reilly wins English Schools National XC Championships.

1986

Don Speight represents England at the San Sebastian road race and
helps the English squad to team victory.

1987

In January the clubs first newsletter was published.

At the National XC Championships held at Luton,
Ian Hudspith finished 171st in the Youths race, the team finishing 14th.
Gateshead Harriers won the Senior Mens race.

At the Inter-Counties XC Championships Mark Hudspith
finished 75th in the Junior race.

In April, the clubs newsletter was launched as ’runaround’

1988

Steve Platts joins the club from Chesterfield AC.

Senior Mens squad win Harrier League at Chester-le- Street.

Morpeth get major sponsorship deal from Jennings of Morpeth.

1989

Ernie Slaughter appointed Club President.

At the Morpeth to Newcastle road race.
Archie Jenkins was the first Morpeth runner across the line finishing 23rd

1990

At the 75th Morpeth to Newcastle road race.
Paul Wright finished 26th and was the first Morpeth runner across the line

1991

At the 76th Morpeth to Newcastle road race.
Mick Ford finished 32nd and was the first Morpeth runner across the line.
Sarah O`Neill finished 17th in the Ladies race.
Walter Ryder was first O/50 to finish.

1992

Paul Johnson was the first Morpeth runner across the line at the
Morpeth to Newcastle road race, finishing 20th

1993

Mark Hudspith wins Morpeth to Newcastle road race for the first time.

Senior Mens team win Gold medals at National XC Relays at Mansfield.

1994

Mark Hudspith wins Bronze medal at Commonwealth Games marathon

At the National XC Championships held at South Shields,
Morpeths Senior Mens team finish 3rd

Senior Mens team win Gold medals at National XC Relays at Mansfield.

Under 15 Boys squad win Northern XC Championship title at Birkenhead.
Running in the team were John Mooney, Mark Brown and Richard Kay.

1995

Ian Hudspith wins Morpeth to Newcastle road race for the first time.

1996

Alan Shepherd finished third in the Morpeth to Newcastle road race

Senior Mens squad win British League Div.4 title.

1997

Club celebrates its 50th anniversary.

Mark Hudspith wins the Blaydon Race.

Senior Men regain title at National XC Relays at Mansfield.

There were wins for the Senior Men, Junior Men and Junior Women
at the North Eastern XC Championships, where we were top team for
fourth year in succession.

Club captures both Mens and Womens titles at Tyneside Track League.

Mark Hudspith wins Morpeth to Newcastle road race for the second time.

Jared Deacon set a club 400m record (45.94)

Paul Reed won a Northern title double at Shot and Discus.

Nisha Desai won the Northern U13 XC title.

Ian Hudspith gained victory in 10,000mt World Championship trial.

John Mooney won the Northern U17 XC title.

Ketan Desai won the U15 800mts at the English Schools Championships.

1998

Senior Mens team finish third at National XC Championships at Leeds
as do the Junior Mens team.

Jared Deacon gets selected for Commonwealth Games.

Senior Mens squad finish fifth at
the European Half Marathon Championships.

1999

Mark Hudspith sets new course record at Royal Signals relays (9m56s)

Senior Mens team finish fifth at National XC Championships at Newark.
Under 17 Men finish 11th

Senior Men win first team prize at London Marathon.
Mark Hudspith finished 22nd Ian Hudspith was 23rd and Alan Shepherd finished 39th

Senior Mens squad win Bronze medals at the National 12 Stage Road Relays.

2000

Mark Hudspith wins Morpeth to Newcastle road race for the third time.

Senior Mens team win silver medals at National XC
Championships held at Stowe.

Jim Alder celebrates his 60th birthday.

Senior Men win first team prize again at London Marathon.

Jared Deacon gets selected for the UK 4x400m squad
for the 2000 Olympics in Australia.

2001

Mark Hudspith wins Morpeth to Newcastle road race for the fourth time.

Senior Mens team win Bronze medals at National XC
Championships held at Durham.

Senior Mens track and field squad relegated from British League.

Morpeth Harriers website launched.

2002

Mark and Ian Hudspith selected for 2002 Commonwealth Games.

Senior Mens squad win Silver medals at the National 12 Stage Road Relays.

Senior Mens team win National XC Relays at Mansfield for fourth time.

2003

Senior Mens team win Northern road relays title at Blackpool.Senior Mens team finish second at National XC Championships
on Parliament Hill.
Under 17 Mens squad get Bronze medals.

Nick McCormick joins club.

Nathan Shrubb wins Junior Great North Run.

2004

Morpeth to Newcastle road race celebrates its centenary.

Senior mens squad win Royal Signals relays for the seventh time.

Nathan Shrubb wins Morpeth 11K road race.
First time race has been won by an Under 17Senior Mens squad win Northern 12 Stage road relays for
fifth time in a row.

Senior Mens team win National XC relays at Mansfield
for fifth time
Under 17 Men get Silver.

Clubhouse gets upgraded.

2005

Nick McCormick gets selected for 1500m race
in 2006 Commonwealth Games.

Senior Mens squad win Northern 12 Stage road relays for
sixth time.

Young athletes squad go unbeaten in Young Athlets League
and get promoted to Premier Division.

Ian Hudspith wins Tynedale 10K.

Senior Mens team win National XC relays at Mansfield
for sixth time.
