Four Morpeth Harriers were in competitive action at Sunday’s annual Tartan Games, organised by Gateshead Harriers, and held at Gateshead Stadium.
Busiest of the quartet was undoubtedly Veteran Throws specialist, Claire Reid, who travelled down from her Scottish home, to compete in all three throws events. Her best performance was in the Discus, where she was the leading Female, throwing a best of 30.73m. In the Shot Putt, she finished fourth overall, and was third Woman, but first Veteran, putting a best in her series of 9.37m. She also threw 16.61m in the Javelin, finishing ninth overall, and was second Veteran Woman. Although she could only finish second, Morpeth Under 20 Woman Charlotte Earl managed a best of 4.81m in the Long Jump, improving her best by 3cm. On the track, although he only finished second in the combined Under 13/Under 15 Boys Mile, Morpeth’s Elliot Mavir took the Under 15 Boys title, posting a time of 5m32.50s, in his first ever attempt at the distance. In the combined Under 17/Under 20/Senior Men’s Mile, Morpeth Under 20 Man Joe Anderson finished second to Gala Harriers Senior Man Darrell Hastie, posting a time of 4m43.06s, beating fellow Under 20 Man Thomas McCaskill of Teviotdale, who finished third in 4m46.98s.
