24 athletes from the ranks of Morpeth Harriers competed well in the 328 competitors
who took part in the annual Elswick Harriers Newburn River Run, held on the evening of Wednesday 17th June 2015. The club was certainly well represented in the first 1/3rd of the field, with no less than twelve finishing within them. Leading their charge was Ian Harding, who as a previous winner was seeking to repeat his success, however he only just lost out on the tough multi terrain course by the margin of fifteen seconds to Durham City’s Dan Jenkin, with his finishing time of 34m23s. With conditions slightly tempered by a stiff breeze, Morpeth Harriers leading Under 20 athlete Elliot Kelly produced an excellent supporting run in 36m14s, to finish in fourth place. Morpeth Harriers proved to be very dominant in the Male team race, with Tim Miley coming home in 24th place in 40m21s as third home from the club. Tim was also second home in the Over 50 Veteran Men’s category, and was eighth Veteran overall. Next home for Morpeth Harriers was Jack Armstrong, who is continuing to make good progress following a period of illness and injury, and his performance of finishing in 35th place in 41m31s in such conditions, clearly reflects this. Three places behind Jack was fellow club colleague Michael Winter, who clocked 42m03s, and was seventh home in the Over 45 Veteran Men’s section. Jim Alder, who as a former Elswick Harrier before linking up with his hometown club several years ago, was Morpeth’s next finisher on an all too familiar course, when he finished 56th in 43m36s, and was fifth in the Over 50 section. Finishing three places behind Jim was club-mate Paul Banks, who clocked 44m03s, and was ninth Over 40 Veteran Man. Other Morpeth Harriers finishers in the event were as follows Mike Steven (86th) (4th Over 55 Man) 45m47s, Mark Crosby (87th) (11th Over 50 Man) 45m54s, Chris Waugh (95th) (5th Over 55 Man) 46m30s, Richard Kirby (99th) (18th Over 40 Man) 46m44s, Nick Armstrong (103rd) (15th Over 45 Man) 47m18s, Hannah Rank (132nd) (16th Lady) 49m00s, Norman Clark (140th) (2nd Over 60 Man) 49m04s, Shuna Rank (154th) (24th Lady) (3rd Over 45 Lady) 50m28s, Carole Parry (174th) (30th Lady) (4th Over 45 Lady) 52m18s, and many congratulations to new member Jacinta Wake, who on her first run for the club finished 228th in 56m21s, was 58th Lady, and was eleventh Over 45, Jane Briggs (244th) (71st Lady) (13th Over 45 Lady) 57m46s, Jane Blackett (245th) (72nd Lady) (7th Over 50) 57m48s, Sue Smith (246th) (73rd Lady) (14th Over 45 Lady) 57m48s, Kate Herron (247th) (74th Lady) 57m48s, Fiona Hartley (249th) (75th Lady) (15th Over 45 Lady) 57m52s, Charlotte Woodcock (303rd) (107th Lady) 65m45s, and Jill Sandeman (310th) (113th Lady) (24th Over 40 Lady) 67m52s.
