The North Eastern Counties 10,000 Metre Track Championships,
took place at Jarrow’s Monkton Stadium, on the evening of Wednesday 19th April. and two Morpeth Harriers were in the line-up of eighteen athletes, fourteen Men, and four Women, who completed the 25 laps. Mark Snowball and Jake Masterman finished eighth and ninth respectively, both producing new personal best times for the distance of 34m20.5s, and 34m43.9s. Being still an Under 20 athlete, Masterman was the youngest in the field. Thankfully it was a calm dry night, which made the conditions ideal. The championship was won by Middlesbrough and Cleveland’s Greg Jayasuriya, who also clocked a personal best winning time of 31m57s. Second and third places went to Finn Brodie of Tyne Bridge Harriers (32m03.4s), and Michael Joyeux of Quakers (32m53.5s). The Women’s Championship went to Veteran Elaine Leslie of Jarrow and Hebburn, who clocked a personal best of 39m25.0s. No fewer than fourteen new personal best times were achieved during this event.
