It was certainly a day of deserved celebration for Morpeth Harriers Young Athletes squad, and their respective Team Managers, Mark Brown (Boys), and Dave Thomas (Girls), as they pulled off a superb final match win in their Division 1 NEYDL fixture, held at KEVI School on Saturday 20th July 2019.
Despite missing several key athletes, mainly because of family holidays, the remaining available squad members, all sixty six of them, 37 Male, and 29 Female, determinedly worked hard all throughout the match, to create an excellent result, which saw them win by a margin of over 115 points, from second placed Harrogate Harriers, which not only gave them a match win, it also gave them the league title, regaining the one that they lost to their Yorkshire rivals, almost a year ago. Results clearly show that there was a great deal of strength in performance terms by the clubs Under 15 Boys and Under 13 Girls, where fourteen events each were won on the day, with five each being double victories, and in addition to this, in the respective 4 x 100m Relay events, the club enjoyed no less than three wins, one second, one third, and one fifth place. In addition to this, there were around fifty new personal bests achieved, and some of the club’s athletes served them well, by testing themselves in unfamiliar events. The Under 15 Boy sprinters were certainly in flying form, with Nat Arkle winning the 100m in a new personal best time of 12.10s, Jack Kyte came up trumps in the B Race, winning also in a new personal best time (12.19s). Other performances in the 100m, show Morpeth’s Harry Brown as the fourth fastest overall with a new personal best of 12.56s, and newcomers Will Smith and Xander Beveridge weighed in with decent clocking’s of 13.16s, and 14.77s. Sprinting success continued in the 200m, where Kyte won the A Race with new figures of 24.81s, and Harry Brown confirmed another Morpeth double win by taking the B Race in a new personal best time of 26.80s. Adam Howliston of Morpeth also achieved new figures of 29.39s, as an additional performer in the Under 15 Boys 200m. Although there were no more A String victories on the track for the Under 15 Boys, there were two B String wins. Sam Tate tackled 300m and 800m for the very first time, finishing second in both A races, posting decent times of 44.79s, and 2m14.35s respectively. In the 300m B Race, Morpeth’s Ryan Davies won in a new personal best time of 46.02s, and Bertie Marr posted 46.94s as an additional performer for Morpeth. Marr did have his own moment of glory however, when he finished second in the 800m B Race, posting a new personal best of 2m17.06s. Morpeth’s Joe Dixon equalled his personal best as an additional performer in the 800m, clocking 2m26.66s. Dixon came in for praise from his Team Manager however, when he secured points in the 80m Hurdles, which he tackled for the first time, finishing second in 19.76s. In the Under 15 Boys 1500m, Ryan Davies finished second in the B Race in 4m36.45s, and Liam Roche took the B Race in 4m49.23s. Adam Howliston again produced a new personal best here as an additional Morpeth performer, clocking 5m10.98s. Morpeth’s Under 15 Boys truly excelled in the Field events, where they produced no less than five A String, and three B String victories, Double victories of both A and B String competitions came in three of those events. Edward Gardiner won both the A String Javelin (25.78m), and A String Hammer (14.13m), and also provided excellent B String winning support to Nat Arkle in the Discus, which Arkle won with a best of 29.89m, which for him was a new personal best. Gardiner meanwhile threw 23.29m to win the B String. Gardiner’s win in the Javelin was made perfect by Harry Brown, who took the B String, producing a new lifetime best of 23.64m. Nat Arkle enjoyed his second Field Event win of the day in the Shot Putt, where he putted 11.65m, and Sam Tate clearly showed his versatility as he tackled his third unfamiliar event of the day, to win the B String with 8.44m. Another Morpeth performance in the Under 15 Boys Shot Putt came from Liam Roche, who managed a best of 6.04m. Newcomer Ben Farrier won the A String High Jump with his clearance of 1.50m, and Adam Howliston produced another personal best, when he cleared 1.35m, to claim second place in the B String. Staying with personal bests, 800m and 1500m specialists Ryan Davies and Bertie Marr each achieved new figures of 3.64m and 3.40m respectively, when finishing fifth and fourth in the A and B String Long Jumps. Morpeth Harriers Under 15 Boys finished third in their 4 x 100m Relay in 54.76s. Three double victories, plus very nearly a fourth in the 100m, and a 4 x 100m Relay victory, summed up an excellent day on the track for Morpeth Harriers Under 13 Girls. Victoria Hodgson continues to progress under the excellent guidance of her coach and Team Manager Dave Thomas, and she very nearly pulled of a A String sprint double, just losing out by a fraction of a second in the 100m, where she clocked an excellent 13.71s. She did exact revenge in the 200m however, against the same opponent Georgia Richmond of New Marske, winning by a fraction of a second in 28.24s. Freya Caygill gave excellent B String support for Morpeth in both events, posting winning times of 14.27s and 29.61s respectively. Caygill enjoyed her own moment of glory in the A String, where she won, posting new figures of 2m37.96s. Amelia Hamlin took the 800m B Race in 2m45.67s. Hamlin had also recorded 14.95s as an additional Morpeth performer in the 100m and clocked 30.89s likewise in the 200m. Other Morpeth performances in the 100m came from Ella Tillmouth (15.15s), and Tamara Bowen (15.55s). Tillmouth also clocked 32.60s in the 200m. Holly Gillie was an additional Morpeth performer in the 800m, posting a time of 3m03.18s. In the Under 13 Girls 1500m, Morpeth’s Molly Baker posted new figures of 5m43.05s when finishing second in the A Race. Keira Peck took the B Race for Morpeth in 5m46.83s, running the distance for the first time. Morpeth’s Under 13 Girls completed an excellent day on the track, by winning their 4 x 100m Relay in 58.60s. Georgia Turner of Morpeth was certainly inspiring in the Under 13 Girls Field Events, where she won the A Strings of both the Javelin and Discus, with personal best performances respectively of 19.70m and 17.07m. Backing Georgia up well for Morpeth in the respective B String events were Keira Peck, who threw a new personal best of 17.41m to win the Javelin, and newcomer Emily Cappleman, who won the Discus with 14.74m. Peck was also an additional Morpeth performer in the Discus, posting a best of 12.82m. Cappleman also enjoyed an A String victory in the Shot Putt (6.93m), and had sound B String backing from Georgia Turner, who won with her best Putt of 6.00m. Additional performances in the Javelin for Morpeth came from Cappleman (11.81m), and another newcomer, Emily Rutherford (8.65m) In the High Jump, Molly Baker cleared 1.20m, a new personal best, to finish third in the A String competition, with Rutherford taking the B String with her clearance of 1.14m. Victoria Hodgson produced a best of 3.80m to finish fourth in the A String Long Jump, and Tamara Bowen won the B String competition with 3.66m. Additional Morpeth performances in the Long Jump came from Rutherford (3.22m), and Holly Gillie (3.06m), and in the High Jump Tamara Bowen and Ella Tillmouth cleared 1.14m and 1.10m respectively. Next best performers for Morpeth were their Under 17 Men, where eleven athletes managed eleven event wins between them, five A String and six B String, plus the addition of a last gasp of the day 4 x 100m Relay victory, with four double victories amongst their successes. One of those double victories came on the track, where Ben Waterfield bettered his 1500m time by four seconds, clocking 4m19.50s to take the A Race, and Ben Walker also achieved new figures of 4m34.85s, to take the B Race. To make the 1500m result even better for Morpeth, Dylan Davies managed new figures of 4m36.93s, as an additional performer. Morpeth very nearly achieved another track double victory in the 800m, as Dylan Gooding just lost out to Harrogate’s Adam Seidel, as he finished second in 2m08.45s. Euan Duffin, who has missed most of the track season with injury, performed well by winning the B Race, with new figures of 2m08.19s. Duffin also ran a 400m for the first time in his life, finishing fourth, clocking an encouraging 60.48s. Another first timer, was Josh Adams, who finished third in the 100m Hurdles in 17.97s, and also went on to produce new figures of 24.67s, when finishing fifth in the 200m A Race, being well backed up by Josh Priest finishing third in the B Race in 31.32s. Adams also competed in the 100m B Race, finishing third, with a new personal best time of 12.36s. Max Marr of Morpeth also set new figures of 12.21s, when finishing fifth in a highly competitive 100m A Race. An additional Morpeth performer in the 100m was Josh Priest, who clocked 15.19s. Dominic Marshall finished second in the Under 17 Men’s 400m Hurdles, clocking 67.82s. Rounding off the Under 17 Men’s track performances, Ben Waterfield brought the Morpeth 4 x 100m squad home to a dramatic last gasp win in 47.20s. It was certainly in the Field Events where Morpeth’s Under 17 Men excelled, having four A String wins, and three B String, with three of them being double victories. The pairing of Max Marr, and throws specialist Daniel Dowd was not only inspiring, but also exceptional, in both the Long Jump, and Triple Jump events. Marr won bot A Strings with respective best performances of 5.75m and 10.90m, whilst Dowd won both B Strings with personal best performances of 5.03m and 10.15m. Dowd certainly proved all his worth, when winning his specialist Javelin event, producing a best of 41.54m. Dominic Marshall provided Morpeth B String support, finishing second, producing a best throw of 19.13m. Ben Waterfield cleared 1.50m to finish second in the A String High Jump, and for the very first time, putted 8.27m, finishing second as B String support to Theo Brown’s A String win in the Shot Putt with 9.77m. Brown also finished second in the A String’s of both the Hammer and the Discus (18.41m and 31.30m), the former being his first attempt at the event. Morpeth’s Dylan Gooding finished second in the B String Discus with a best of 10.98m. Next best in performance terms for the club were their Under 15 Girls, who managed eight individual victories, five from the A String, and three from the B String, which two of these coming as double wins of both A and B Strings. One of the double victories came on the track, in the 200m, courtesy of Melody Brooks, who won the A Race, recording a fractional new personal best performance of 26.85s, and Mia Belton, who also produced new figures of 26.99s, when taking the B Race. Additional Morpeth performances in the 200m, also came from Ellie Wickens (28.80s), Lucy McConnell (29.30s), which was a new personal best, and newcomer Neave Hope (30.12s). Belton and Brooks also teamed up in the 100m, with Belton just missing out for victory in the A Race, where she clocked 13.10s, and Brooks won the B Race, producing a fractional new personal best of 13.16s. An additional Morpeth performer in the Under 15 Girls 100m was Ellie Wickens, who posted a time of 14.07s. Abi Leiper of Morpeth produced new personal bests of 45.05s and 2m24.64 respectively, when finishing second in the A String events of the 300m and 800m. In the 300m B String event, Morpeth’s Olivia Gent produced a fractional personal best, when finishing second. Laura Melling finished fourth in the Under 15 Girls A String 1500m in 6m25.12s for Morpeth. The club finished second in the Under 15 Girls 4 x 100m in a time of 53.23s, just losing out to Harrogate in a very close contest. Morpeth managed four A String wins in the Under 15 Girls Field Events, and one B String victory. That one B String victory contributed to a double win for the club. It was in the Shot Putt, where newcomer Deryn Hutchinson won the A String with a best of 7.17m, and another newcomer Neave Hope won the B String with 7.05m Hutchinson achieved another A String victory in the Javelin with 22.09m, and Lucy McConnell and Melody Brooks added to their other achievements by winning the A String High Jump (1.35m), and A String Discus (18.54m). Abi Leiper (4.48m), and Olivia Gent (3.97m) finished second respectively in the A and B String Under 15 Girl Long Jump competitions. Morpeth’s Under 13 Boys and Under 17 Women managed seven individual wins each, with the Boys gaining one double victory amongst them, and the Women two. The Under 13 Boys also gained a 4 x 100m Relay victory in 55.57s. Owen Omoigui and Sam Dent secured the Under 13 Boys double win in the 100m, with the former taking the A Race in a new personal best time of 13.30s Dent also produced a new personal best of 13.81s, when winning the B Race. Other Morpeth Harriers in action in the 100m were Finn Tillmouth (14.28s), Elliot Mavir (14.31s), which was a new personal best, Harrison Scott (14.47s), and Alex Jobson (16.39s). Mavir also produced new figures of 29.22s, when finishing second in the 200m, and newcomer Benjamin Hope took the B Race in 29.81s. Morpeth Harriers other performances in the Under 13 Boys 200m came from Harrison Scott 30.20s, Sam Livingstone (33.17s), Alex Jobson (35.37s), and Sam Stoodley (36.33s). In the Under 13 Boys 800m event, Finn Tillmouth finished third in the A Race in 2m38.94s, and Sam Dent produced new figures of 2m40.59s, when he won the B Race. Sam Livingstone also competed in the 800m for Morpeth, clocking a time of 2m50.67s. Benjamin Hope won the 75m Hurdles A Race in 14.41s, and Aaron Hayes finished second in the B Race in 18.80s. In the Under 13 Boys 1500m, Oliver Tomlinson finished second in the A Race in 5m17.75s, and Conner Phillips finished third in the B Race in 5m38.68s. Luke Robson also ran in the Under 13 Boys 1500m for Morpeth and produced a personal best of 5m41.35s. Morpeth had no A String winners in the Under 13 Boys Field events, however there were some good performances, one notably from Owen Omoigui, who produced a new personal best of 1.35m, which he cleared to finish second in the A String High Jump. Benjamin Hope cleared 1.14m to finish second in the B String. Sam Dent finished second in the A String Long Jump with a best of 4.21m, and Omoigui obliged by achieving an excellent B String win with 4.12m. Other Morpeth performers in the Long Jump were Elliot Mavir (3.88m), and Sam Stoodley (3.25m). In the Under 13 Boys Discus, Oliver Tomlinson finished third with 8.19m. Morpeth’s Sam Livingstone finished fourth in the A String Javelin, throwing a best of 13.77m, and Alex Jobson won the B String with 10.97m. Finn Tillmouth also threw 9.92m in the Javelin as an additional performer. Conner Phillips finished fifth in the Under 13 Boys A String Shot Putt with a best of 4.01m. On to Morpeth’s small band of eight Under 17 Women, who between them managed a total of seven individual wins, three A String and four B String, with two resulting in double victories. One of those double victories came in the 200m, courtesy of Amber Witt, who won the A Race in a new personal best time of 26.35s, with Abbie Ross taking the B Race in 27.93s, again a new personal best performance. Witt made her day even better when she took the 100m A Race in 12.87s, and Charlotte Earl produced new figures of 13.66s, when finishing third in the B Race. Morpeth’s other double victory in the Under 17 Women also came from the track, courtesy of Sophie Coaker winning the 1500m A Race in 5m29.65s, and Kate Gaffing taking the B race in 5m41.32s. This pair also teamed up in the 300m, with Coaker finishing third in the A Race (46.94s), with Gaffing taking the B Race in 50.48s. Holly Peck finished third in the 800m A Race in 2m25.22s, and bravely in the absence of any other due to holidays, tackled the 300m Hurdles for the first time ever, finishing third in 56.00s. Rosie Winter worked her socks off in the Under 17 Women’s throwing events, where she finished third in the A String Javelin (23.77m), fourth in the A String Hammer (22.27m), and again third in the A String Shot Putt, where she produced a personal best performance of 7.83m. Holly Peck backed up Winter in the B String Javelin, finishing third with a best throw of 12.31m, and Emily Grimsby gave B String support in the Shot Putt, finishing second with 5.77m. Charlotte Earl produced a personal best of 4.62m, when finishing fourth in the A String Long Jump. She was backed up well in this for Morpeth, as Abbie Ross took the B String with 4.57m. In the Under 17 Women’s Triple Jump, Ross produced new figures of 9.47m, to finish as third A String. This was indeed a fine performance by all of the squad, who at the end of the day produced a superb winning result by supporting each other all the way through to the end, with some tackling unfamiliar events to plug the gaps where required, which turned a dream of regaining a title into a reality rather than a lost cause, WELL DONE EVERYONE !!!!
