BMAF Track and Field Championships, BMAF and NEMAA 5,000m and 10,000m
The BMAF Track and Field Championships in Derby between from 11-13 September were the most keenly contested yet, with record numbers turning out to compete. Ben Harding had an excellent race in the Over 55 400m, clocking 57:13 seconds to win a Silver medal. He was also 5th in the 100, with a time of 13:12s. Sprinter Trevor Hodgson was a winner in the 100m, recording 11:85s, his placing one better than last year’s Silver. Meanwhile, Gavin Bayne continued what seems to be an unstoppable run of top drawer results having turned 70 earlier in the year. His clocking of 19:58.00 at Nuneaton in late August saw him top of the Power of 10 rankings for the year, a position he matched a few weeks later when running 40:22.4 in the NECAA and NEMAA Championships at Jarrow. The latter performance actually places him 2nd in the World for the distance this year – although at one point in the race he looked headed for the very top! Remarkable running once again by Gav. Kirsty Burville ran on the same afternoon at Jarrow, clocking 20:01.3 in the NEMAA 5000m Championships to take the U/45 Gold.. Running in the same race, her coach Andrew Dippie ran 25:24.00 for 0/65 Bronze North Tyneside 10k Moved from its usual place in the Spring calendar, the popular N. Tyneside 10k was run on Sunday 21 September in breezy conditions from Meadowell to St. Mary’s Island causeway. Won in a time of 32:26 by Carl Smith, now of NSP, with Heaton’s Jo Woodcock taking the women’s race in 37:53, there were some six Morpeth finishers. Local Andy Lawrence was 19th in 36:36, Richard Glennie 178th in 44:22, Eric Hurrell 322nd in 47:42, Sophie Ward 344th and 56th woman in 48:01, Laura Maclean 384th and 66th in 48:38 and Sarah Henry 741st and 197th in 54:51. There were some 1691 finishers in total, with NSP having no less than 151 finishers in total. Limited to 1000 entries and starting and finishing at Keswick Rugby Club (original organisers of the first race, for whom it was a fundraiser) the route comprises one complete circuit of Derwentwater. Won in 1 hour 10 minutes 37 seconds by Mercian Fell Runner Daniel Connolly, with Miranda Frizzelle 1st woman in 1:30:27, Steve was 67th in 1:39.10 and also 8th O/55. Keswick Half Marathon – Official site for the Keswick Half Marathon On the same day, but on the other side of the country, the Redcar half marathon, 10k and 5k saw Morpeth’s Andy Ball make a nostalgic journey down the A19 to run in the half. Rob Scott of Richmond and Zetland took the Men’s race in 1:08:45 with Wallsend’s Jen Berry the Women’s in 1:21:31. Andy was 30th and 7th O/45 in 1:20.07 but lamented simply ‘the wind was brutal!’ afterwards. Half Marathon (Redcar Running Festival) Comments are closed.
