Fast 5k Meeting Ashton-in-MakerfieldIn her first event after a highly successful, yet short 2020 Track season,
Morpeth Harrier Laura Weightman turned her attentions to the roads on the evening of Monday 5th October. She was very much a runaway winner of the Women’s event, at the Fast 5k Meeting, held on what is normally a Go Kart centre, at Ashton-in-Makerfield, near Wigan in Lancashire. Weightman’s original intentions were to have an attempt at breaking Paula Radcliffe’s UK record of 14m51s, however, was very soon out on her own, after dropping fellow International Jenny Hull of Australia in the first half of the race. Laura eventually crossed the finish line in 15m10s, which for her, was a new personal best, taking eleven seconds off her previous best, achieved in May 2019 in Ipswich. Two Morpeth Harriers took part in the Men’s event, which took place immediately before the Women’s race. Chris Parr finished eleventh in 14m24s, and George Lowry was seventeenth in 14m46s. The Men’s event was won by American Eric Jenkins, who posted a finishing time of 13m52s. Comments are closed.
