Finishing 39th, and posting a personal best time of 31m59s, Morpeth’s Laura Weightman won the Women’s race at the annual Trafford 10k, held in Partington, Greater Manchester on Sunday 10th March 2019,
breaking the previous Women’s course record of 32m29s, set by Sunderland Stroller Alyson Dixon in 2015, which was deemed a Short Course, and has subsequently been re-measured. She finished four seconds ahead of Shaftesbury’s Beth Potter, who had won the Ribble Valley 10k in December, with Birchfield’s Sarah Treacy nearly two minutes further adrift in third place. This win will have given Weightman much encouragement, as she seeks to conquer the longer distances during the summer track campaign. Other Morpeth Harriers in action at Trafford were 2018 North Eastern Counties 10,000mtr Track Champion Mark Long and George Lowry, who finished in thirteenth and sixteenth places, with respective times of 30m43s, and 31m00s. For Long, it represented a brand-new personal best for the distance by around a minute, and for Lowry, an excellent debut run over the distance. Morpeth also had newcomer Adam Pratt running, and he finished 106th in 34m40s. Comments are closed.
