REPORT
Smiles all round as cross-country competition returns with successful Thornley Farm relays
12 April: 
Morpeth's U20 men took top billing as they won an impressive gold medal as Thornley Farm hosted the NECAA Championship Relays at the weekend. There were also medals for Morpeth's Senior Women and Senior Men. But the main talking point of the day was how good it was to see competitive action return after the prolonged break due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Promising start to new track season for Morpeth stars
7 April: 
The return to competitive action saw two of Morpeth's brightest prospects start their 2021 track seasons in top form with PB performances over 5,000 and 10,000m.

JUNIORS
Youngsters urged to join trials event
6 April:
 The club is to host a trials event for young athletes at the Morpeth track on Saturday, 24 April from 10am. Events will include track races over 100m, 300m, 400m and 800m, plus shotput and long jump.

ANNOUNCEMENT
Membership fees due as club activities set to resume
27 March:
 Members are being asked to pay their membership fees for 2021 with training and competition set to resume following the relaxation of the Covid restrictions from 29 March. Members who paid in full in 2020 will pay a discounted rate this year. Members are requested to complete their details on the online registration form here and arrange payment by bank transfer or cheque.

Entries open for first Morpeth track meet of 2021
27 March:
 The North Eastern Counties Athletic Association has announced plans for its first open meeting of the year which will take place at the Morpeth track on Sunday, 18 April. Competition will take place over 200, 800 and 3,000M on the track and in the long jump, shot put, discus and hammer. There are age categories from 13 upwards. For more details click here.

James records brilliant PB in mile victory
22 March:
 Morpeth Harrier James Young posted a new personal best of 4 minutes 00.40 seconds for the mile when winning the National College Athletics Association Division 2 Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Alabama. It is the second fastest time over the distance ever recorded by a member of the club and the third fastest time by a UK athlete this year.
James said: "It's been a long time coming after last year was so abruptly canceled, so I wanted to make this one count... Once I crossed the line, it was just the relief that everything I've done has paid off and I've got something now to show for it."

ANNOUNCEMENT
Plans revealed for resumption of club activities
15 March:
 Club facilities will reopen and training sessions will resume from 29 March in line with the latest guidance from England Athletics. The relaxation of Covid rules will also allow competition to resume from the same date. Club officials have moved to update members on the plans, with a range of measures in place to mitigate any health risks.

Morpeth Harrier secures place at fifth successive Olympics
8 March:
 Mongolian international marathon runner Serod Batochir has qualified for the Tokyo Olympics after posting a time of 2 hours 9 minutes 29 seconds in the Lake Biwa Marathon in Japan last month. Batochir is a lifetime member of Morpeth Harriers having moved to the region in 2009 and trained with the club in his preparations for the London 2012 Games.

TRIATHLON
Triathlete Dan lands prestigious Team England scholarship
1 March Morpeth Harrier Daniel Dixon has been awarded a prestigious scholarship by Team England to support young athletes on their journey to the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022.
​Daniel said: 
“Even though it’s not in Northumberland, it’s certainly a home Games and that’s really special for an up and coming athlete, and I will do absolutely everything I can to make sure I’m on that start line next year.”

EVENT
Harriers urged to take part in new winter handicap series
25 January:
 Club members are being invited to take part in a new winter virtual handicap series, which will see participants challenged to post times for runs of between one mile and 10kms over a period of a month. Kevin Bray explains all in his latest blog.

ANNOUNCEMENT
Membership fees reduced and payments deferred until 1 April
15 January:
 Membership fees for 2021 will be significantly reduced and payment will be deferred until April, the Morpeth Harriers committee has announced. The decision to reduce fees to £40 for full Senior membership and £30 for young athletes follows the disruption to club training and events caused by the pandemic. Full details of the new fees and when they will become due are set out in the notice from the club committee available via the link below.

5 January:
 The club can confirm that all training, for Seniors and Juniors, has been suspended with immediate effect and all facilities have been closed following news of the latest lockdown in England.
