Morpeth Harrier Scott Beattie ran very courageously when finishing fifth, and just outside the medals in the Men's 10,000metres at Tuesday Nights session of athletics at the 23rd Commonwealth Games, held at Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow.
Running in a torrential downpour, Beattie ran very close to his personal best, posting a finishing time of 27m54.50s.
The race was won by Australia's Ky Robinson in a time of 27m48.93s.
Second and third places went to Gulveer Singh of India (27m49.78s), and David Mullarkey of Great Britain (27m50.28s).
Beattie will now focus on his next big outing, the European Championships in Birmingham next month.
