Dejection was written all over the face of Morpeth Harrier Scott Beattie, as he crossed the finish line at the end of his 25-lap stint, at the European Athletics 10,000metres Championships, last Saturday evening at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium.
Disappointing that on this occasion he was also well adrift of any medal chances, as he finished fifteenth in a time of 28m50.35s.
He was also nearly thirty seconds adrift of fellow Briton David Mullarkey, who managed to hang on twelfth place.
The pair had also competed in the Commonwealth event.
Sweden’s Andreas Almgren won the Gold Medal in 27m23.44s, with Switzerland’s Dominic Lobalu and France’s Jimmy Gresser taking the Silver and Bronze, posting respective times of 27m42.67s, and 28m07.90s.
