Despite a torrential downpour, Morpeth Harriers Senior Man Josh Fiddaman found an extra dimension to his winning 1500m performance at the fifth and penultimate NEGP meeting, held at Jarrow’s Monkton Stadium on Wednesday 19th August.
After Durham City’s William Jardine led the fastest three- and three-quarter lap field through the early stages, Fiddaman’s Morpeth club colleague Ellis Hetherington took them through the bell, being chased by North Shields Poly’s Daniel Watson.
Hetherington looked all day a winner during the final lap, however that factor changed as the leaders rounded the final bend, as Fiddaman surged to the front, to take a sweet victory in 3m53.98s.
Whilst Watson remained in second place, Hetherington was forced to settle for third place in 3m55.03s, just ahead of his club colleague Matthew Walton, who produced a personal best performance of 3m56.04s.
Other Morpeth performances in the 1500m A race came from Bertie Marr, who finished eighth in 3m58.26s, which was a new personal best, and Alistair Douglass, who finished twelfth in 4m04.86s.
