An update on the planned celebrations on Tuesday 11th August for our Club President, Jim Alder MBE on the 60th anniversary of his victory in the marathon in the Commonwealth and Empire Games held in Jamaica 1966.
While it was hoped to unveil Tom Maley's wonderful statue of Jim on that day, unfortunately the public unveiling will now have to take place at a later date, and NOT on the 11th August as originally proposed. This is because it has not been possible to reach agreement on a permanent location in the town. We are however in active discussion with the local council to identify the best possible site and we very much hope that the statue will be unveiled in the near future.
Jim will still be celebrating his very special anniversary with family and close friends, and we're hoping for extensive local media coverage to celebrate his remarkable achievement and contribution, both to the sport in general and specifically to our club.
We'll share further updates as soon as we are able, and would apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Remember: Jim's remarkable life story has often been about overcoming obstacles and difficulties in his way - and this is just another part of that ongoing story. We'll get there. Thank you for your support and understanding.
