The second meeting of the North East Grand Prix series was held at Monkton Stadium, Jarrow, on Wednesday 27th May.
Fifteen athletes were in competitive action over the evening, with the main event being the fastest 800m, which was run for the Jimmy Hedley Cup, presented in honour of the former Coach of Steve Cram and David Sharpe, amongst numerous others.
This year the winner’s trophy went to Durham City athlete William Jardine, who led almost from gun to tape over the two-lap contest.
He won in an excellent personal best time of 1m52.97s, by almost a second from North Shields Poly’s Daniel Watson, with Charlie Furness, also from North Shields getting third place.
Just missing out on a top three place was Morpeth Harrier Joseph Close, who placed fourth in 1m55.92s.
Alistair Douglass of Morpeth finished seventh in 1m56.22s.
In form Under 16 Boy Mason Gaylor of Morpeth, produced yet another personal best performance of 2m02.65s, when finishing sixth in the second fastest 800m, having set new figures also two days previously at Shildon in the Northern Athletics Inter Counties.
The fourth fastest 800m saw Morpeth’s Alastair Beasley produce new figures of 2m10.09s, when finishing sixth in the event.
Morpeth Under 16 Boy Charlie Taylor enjoyed an excellent win in the eighth fastest 800m, producing a new personal best time of 2m24.12s.
In the ninth fastest of a total of eleven 800m events, Morpeth Under 18 Woman Charlotte Marshall placed ninth in 2m50.86s.
Charlie Townsend of Morpeth finished third in the third fastest 200m in a wind assisted time of 24.33s.
In the fifth fastest 200m, Morpeth’s Ellie Wickens finished fifth in 27.50s.
Morpeth Over 65 Veteran Man Paul Bellingham posted a personal best time of 29.61s, when finishing third in the eighth fastest of eleven 200m events.
Four athletes from Morpeth Harriers competed in the second fastest of three 3000m events.
The quartet were led home by Andrew Mirfield, who placed ninth in 9m24.21s, which was a new personal best.
Lee Cuthbertson also produced new figures of 9m39.75s, when finishing fifteenth.
Under 18 athlete Daniel Craig finished in eighteenth place posting a time of 9m57.79s.
In the third fastest 3000m, Morpeth Under 16 Girl Heidi Wilkinson finished sixth in a new personal best time of 10m26.24s.
Lucas Townsend of Morpeth finished eighth in the A Final of the Shot Putt, producing a best effort of 6.08m.
