Bobbie Griffiths gets her summer season underway !

Under 17 Woman throws specialist Bobbie Griffiths has certainly
made a flying start to her 2017 Summer Track and Field season.
It all began in Blackpool’s Stanley Park for the very talented Morpeth Harrier,
on Saturday 1st April, where there was certainly no fooling around,
as she took two prized Bronze medals, firstly in the Shot Putt,
with a new personal best of 10.11m, then followed
this up by hurling 27.00m in the Discus.

Although, not her favoured event, she took part in the Hammer,
finishing sixth, by throwing a modest 32.68m.

However, the following day, Sunday 2nd, she was on her travels again,
this time North of the Border at Meadowbank Stadium in Edinburgh,
where in her favoured event, the Javelin, she produced a seasons best of 39.90m,
to take a Silver medal, competing against very worthy opposition,
notably the Scottish Champion Keira Waddell of Edinburgh AC.

On Saturday 8th April, she won no less than three individual Gold Medals
at the Bedfordshire Open, held at Bedford County Stadium.
She achieved all of this by again producing a personal best of 40.37m in the Javelin,
also setting new figures of 38.25m in the Hammer, and rounding her day off
very nicely by hurling new seasons best of 27.72m in the Discus.

Griffiths was up early again the following day, however on this occasion
her journey to competition was much shorter than her other excursions.
She took part in the North-East Throws Festival at nearby Whitley Bay,
and within it she enjoyed a rare opportunity to compete in the combined
Senior and Under 20 Women’s Javelin competition, which saw her produce a brand new personal best.
Throwing the heavier implement, she threw a best of 34.96m, which gave her a Gold Medal.
Not content with this, Griffiths also won the Under 17 competition by
producing a best of 39.10m, which was a little adrift of her personal best.

She picked up her third medal of the day in the Discus, on this occasion Silver,
by throwing 28.05m, which was around 60cm short of her best.
Griffiths was second to her Morpeth Harriers club colleague,
Charlotte Pickering-Pruvot, who won with a best of 34.38m,
which for her, represented a massive personal best performance,
which ranks her just inside the Top Ten in the UK,
and leading the rankings for the region.

Morpeth Harriers also had Gold Medal winners in the Under 17 Men’s
Discus and Shot Putt competitions, courtesy of Ruaridh Lang, and Andrew Knight.
Lang won the Discus, by producing a best of 41.87m,
and Knight putted a best of 14.14m in the Shot,
which was agonisingly just short of his personal target,
however both performances were excellent markers
of their early season form, and both are ranked
8th and 7th  in the UK Top Ten respectively.
Both also head the respective regional rankings.

In her favoured event, the Javelin, Griffiths is now ranked No 4 in the UK, and No 1 in the region.
So, her jet setting search and zest for competition has certainly proved
worthwhile, whilst Mum very willingly funds the petrol bill.

These athletes have also reached their required English School qualifiers,
so an exceptional Summer season for all four of these young talents is very much on the cards.

With these results Morpeth, Harriers Throws Coaches Paul Reed
and Dave Thomas can feel justifiably proud of their athletes,
upon their respective early season achievements.
