Morpeth Harrier Peter Newton produced a superb run to win
the 36th Blaydon Race, sponsored by Speedflex on Thursday 9th June. Clocking an excellent 27m11s, he won with seventeen seconds to spare over Tipton Harrier Ryan McLeod. Third place went to former race winner Ian Hudspith of Morpeth, who came home in 27m31s, and was first Veteran Man. Fourth place went to Elswick Harrier Tadele Geremew, who posted a finishing time at Shibdon Pond in Blaydon, of 27m50s. Once again Morpeth Harriers figured very prominently in the Men’s Team Race, with Newton and Hudspith having further support from Thomas Straughan (7th) 28m26s, Sam Hancox (8th) 28m26s, Ross Floyd (10th) 28m48s, Ian Harding (11th) 28m55s, and Chris Smith (12th) 29m02s. In the Women’s race, Morpeth’s Emma Holt finished fourth in 59th place overall, posting a time of 31m45s. The Women’s race was won by Rio bound Sunderland Stroller Alyson Dixon, who finished 18th overall in 29m48s. Over 4000 runners made the annual pilgrimage from Newcastle’s Collingwood Street to Blaydon, including 46 from Morpeth Harriers.
