 Laura Weightman delighted at getting through to the 1500mt final. In what was a drama filled Women’s 1500m Semi Final, Morpeth’s Laura Weightman found the big finish needed, to win her place in Monday’s final, by powering her way to fourth in the second of the two races, on Saturday evening in London’s Olympic Park. Afterwards, an exhilarated Laura described her own performance as a delight, and paid great tribute to the home crowd, as she perhaps surprisingly began to catch people in the home straight that she thought had beaten her, in posting a very satisfying 4m05.63s at the finish line. In essence, both of the two heats got a bit messy during proceedings, with one of the pre-race favourites Gudaf Tsegay of Ethiopia losing out when falling in the first heat, and finished last of twelve, which included Great Britain’s Laura Muir and Jessica Judd. Whilst Muir finished second to favourite Faith Kipyegon of Kenya in 4m03.64s and also qualified, Judd finished tenth in 4m10.14s, which effectively ended her hopes. Great Britain’s fourth contender Sarah MacDonald, also went out, when finishing ninth in the same race as Laura, in a time of 4m06.73s. Laura contests Monday’s final at 21.50 hours, where she lines up alongside Muir, as the events ninth fastest from the Semi’s. Comments are closed.
