Twelve members of Morpeth Harriers took part in the annual Active Northumberland events at Kielder, which included a Run Bike Run, covering total ground of 46k, a 10k, Half Marathon, and Marathon Road Race, on Saturday and Sunday 1st and 2nd October 2016. The most successful performer was Chris Smith, who won the Run Bike Run event on the Saturday, covering 46k of beautiful Northumberland landscape in 1hr58.49s, winning by just over two minutes from Team GBR’s Jon Moss. Other Morpeth Harriers taking part in this event were Mick Skeldon and Vicky Gibbs, who finished in 26th and 51st places, with respective times of 2hrs33m37s, and 2hrs42m18s. Morpeth Harrier Karl Taylor couldn’t quite match up to his 2015 performance in the Half Marathon, due to an unfortunate leg injury sustained en-route, and was forced to settle for second place to Tyne Bridge’s David Green. Taylor clocked 77m53s, having to slow down dramatically in the later stages. Third place went to his Morpeth Harriers club colleague Mark Snowball, who posted a finishing time of 79m36s. The 705 finishers in the Half Marathon, also included Mark Cockburn, who produced a personal best for the distance when finishing in eighteenth place, posting a time of 90m36s. Morpeth Harrier Andrew Hebden produced an excellent performance
to finish second in the Marathon, which had 627 recorded finishers. Andrew posted a finishing time of 2hrs58m25s. The field also included seven others from Morpeth Harriers, whose performances were as follows Mike Steven (177th) 4rs04m54s, Gary Mason (201st) 4hrs09m46s, Alex Zeller (242nd) 4hrs16m59s, Simon Eaton (243rd) 4hrs18m22s, and Lisa Herron (270th) 4hrs23m44s.
