Ryan Stephenson and Emma Holt of Morpeth Harriers celebrated
a double victory in the annual North Shields Poly Clive Cookson 10k Road Race, held at Monkseaton on the evening of Wednesday 20th May. Stephenson enjoyed a comfortable victory in the Men’s race, winning by a margin of fourteen seconds in 32m17s, from Tyne Bridge Harrier James Dunce, who sought consolation in the fact that his club enjoyed a four point victory from the host club in the four to score team race. Heaton Harriers finished third in the team race, but were well behind the first two clubs. Third place in the Men’s event went to Tyne Bridge Harrier Kurt Heron in 32m44s, keeping Morpeth Harrier Sam Hancox out of a podium spot in fourth place in 33m04s. In the Women’s event, Holt enjoyed her individual victory in a time of 36m37s, winning by nearly a minute over the host club’s Clare McManus, who also saw their Under 20 athlete Jacqueline Penn finish in third place in 37m41s. Morpeth Harriers had a total of 28 runners in action on the night, including winner Stephenson, Hancox, and Holt.
