Andrew Knight of Morpeth Harriers won his second English Championship medal,
when he gained a Silver Medal in the annual Under 17 Track and Field Championships
held at Bedford County Stadium on the first day of competition on Saturday 26th August 2017.
Knight, who also won a Bronze medal in the Indoor Championships earlier this year,
produced a new personal best performance of 15.41m in the Shot Putt,
finishing second to West Cheshire’s George Hyde, who putted 17.42m for victory.
For Knight, it was a superb achievement, and he still faces another year in his current age group,
and he will continue to work under the guidance of his very proud coach Paul Reed,
who predicts that his charge has a very bright future.
Not so fortunate however, was middle distance runner Rory Leonard,
who just fractionally missed out on further progress in his heat of
the Under 17 Men’s 1500m, finishing eighth in 4m02.96s,
which was fourteenth fastest of the twenty-six competing.
