6/10/2016

For the third time in the space of four days, both Daniel Dixon and Holly Peck
enjoyed respective event victories, when both Morpeth Harriers were winners
at the First Round English Schools Cross Country Cup fixture, held at
Gateshead Bowl, close to Gateshead Stadium on Tuesday 4th October 2016.

Representing King Edward VI Academy, Daniel won the Intermediate Boys event
with plenty to spare over RGS Newcastle’s Harry Morris, who competes for Gateshead Harriers.
Third place went to Dixon’s Morpeth Harrier colleague
Daniel Melling, who was representing Newcastle School Dame Allan’s.

Whilst RGS won the team race by ten points, King Edward led by Dixon finished second,
with further good support coming from Ross Charlton (4th)
Thomas Cunningham (14th), and Sam Bradley (23rd).
Dame Allan’s led by Melling finished third.

King Edward however did enjoy team success in the
Intermediate Girls event, led home by race winner Peck.
Not far behind Peck in second place was her Morpeth Harriers
club colleague Lily Heaton, who produced a superb finish
to outpace RGS’s Grace Varley, who also competes for Gateshead Harriers.
Heaton was second counter for King Edward, and further team support came
from fellow Morpeth Harriers Lauren Cummings (9th),
who is fast improving, and Kirsty Duffin (17th),
who is a very promising new club recruit.

In the Junior Girls event, Morpeth Harrier Alice Geoghegan did very well
when finishing third, and was second counter for a winning RGS Newcastle squad.

Other Morpeth Harriers competing in this event were
Mia Belton, who finished ninth, and Laura Melling, who finished twenty seventh.

In the Junior Boys event, Morpeth Harriers newly crowned
Under 13 Boys Road Champion Dylan Davies ran well
to finish an excellent second to Dame Allan’s Kieron Mutch,
who competes for Gosforth Harriers.
