Morpeths Rory Leonard finished ninth in the Men’s 5000m at the European Under 20 Athletics Championships,
held in Boras in Sweden on Sunday 21st July 2019. Leonard may feel slightly disappointed in that his finishing time of 14m28.56s, was some way down on what he would have wished, and around twelve seconds adrift of the personal best that he had achieved in Manchester in May, that gave him qualification for the Championships, as the only Brit who had achieved the entry standard. He must take some consolation in the fact that he had made the start line in a talent filled field of twenty-one athletes, who were led home by European Junior 5000m Champion Aaron Las Heras, who posted a winning personal best time of 14m02.76s. Leonard should feel honoured to be able to rub shoulders with these talents, and Morpeth Harriers are more than proud of his achievement. Comments are closed.
