In her second indoor appearance of recent time, Morpeth Harrier Jessica Young-Rogers produced a new personal best performance of 7.98s in the second round of her 60m sprint competition at the second Indoor Standards Meeting, held at Gateshead College on the evening of Thursday 12th December 2019.
Until 1st December, Under 20 athlete Jessica, had not made an appearance on the indoor circuit for almost two years, when she won her 60m Heat in the Sale Harriers Open, held at Sport City in Manchester, posting a new time of 8.05s, her previous best having been the 8.13s, which she had also achieved at Gateshead. On Thursday Jessica’s time was only bettered by Gateshead Harriers speedster Megan Costello, who clocked 7.89s. Earlier in the night, Young-Rogers, had also bettered her time with 8.10s, which clearly points to her getting back close to her best, following a fairly lean 2018. Another Morpeth Harrier in action on the night was Under 15 Girl Victoria Hodgson, who was having her very first taste of Indoor competition. The Dave Thomas coached youngster, who indeed shows immense promise, can be very pleased with the fact that her clocking of 8.89s for the 60m sprint was seventh fastest for her age group on the night, and ranks her 31st in the region currently.
