A number of Morpeth athletes made the long journey down to East Anglia on Saturday 11th May 2019, to take part in the English Athletics National 5k Championships.
Over a flat two and a half lap course, Laura Weightman continued to show her fine early season form by breaking the previous course record and running a new personal best of 15m 22s, a clocking which puts her in fourth in the UK all-time list behind Paula Radcliffe, Liz Nuttall and Yvonne Murray. Nick Goolab similarly broke the men’s course record with a time of 13m 34s. First home for Morpeth was Carl Avery, 15th in 14m 3s (a new pb) with youngster Alex Brown running a season’s best of 15m 9s in 39th.
