The first in the current series of Morpeth Harriers Young Athletes Road Championships, this year being officially supported by the club’s mainline sponsor Linden Homes, took place on Lancaster Park on the evening of Monday 21st September 2015. 20 of the club’s youngest age group, the Under 11’s, lined up to contest the 1.2mile circuit, with twelve taking part in the Boys event, and eight in the Girls event. Thankfully the pleasant autumn weather continued, and conditions proved to be relatively ideal. The Boys race was won by Jack Livingstone in a time of 9m09s. Second place went to Tom Wales, who clocked 9m31s, with third place going to Dan Dixon, who came home in 9m47s. As a direct result of their achievements, all three are due to receive respective Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards at a special presentation night, scheduled to take place in late November. Orla Callaghan won a much tighter Girls event, coming home in 10m38s. Second place went to Laura Melling in 10m54s, narrowly squeezing out Sophia Cunningham, who was given the same time by the timekeeper.
