The annual Newburn River Run on Wednesday 14th June 2017, hosted by Elswick Harriers,
attracted a total finishing field of 356 runners, and was won by Sunderland Harrier Kevin Calvert, formerly of Morpeth Harriers, who posted a finishing time of 32m06s, winning by twenty-three seconds from Tyne Bridge Harrier Marc Fenwick, with another former Morpeth Harrier, Kurt Heron of Ashington Hirst Running Club finishing third in 32m55s. The Women’s race was won by Morpeth Harrier Jane Hodgson, who was also first Veteran She finished 13th overall, posting a finishing time of 36m38s, finishing 110 seconds clear of second placed Sophie Marr of Tyne Bridge Harriers. First Morpeth Harrier across the finish line overall, was Mark Snowball, who finished eighth in 34m25s. Other Morpeth Harriers finishers on the night were Paul Waterston (19th) (2nd O/50 Man) 37m06s, Phil Walker (21st) (3rd O/50 Man) 37m16s, Mark Cockburn (27th) 38m16s, Mike Winter (35th) (5th O/45 Man) 39m01s, Jim Alder (79th) (6th O/55 Man) 41m38s, Peter Scaife (85th) (7th O/55 Man) 42m00s, and Mike Steven (99th) (8th O/55 Man) 42m49s.
