Posting four very consistent times, Morpeth Harriers Senior Men made an excellent Northern Athletics Cross Country Relay Championship debut, at Graves Park, in Sheffield on Saturday 17th October 2015. The club had never entered the competition before, so Ross Floyd (10m29s), Karl Taylor (10m43s), Ian Harding (10m41s) and Chris Smith (10m42s), had the enjoyable task of finishing fourth in 42m35s, behind winners Leeds City, who finished in 41m42s for the 4 x 2mile contest. Second place went to Lincoln Wellington (42m06s), and third place went to Liverpool Harriers (42m10s). Initially Morpeth had finished fifth, however that was changed in the judges room, when the original second placed club University of Sheffield, were disqualified for running an ineligible first leg runner. Team Manager for the day, the legendary Jim Alder, described the Morpeth performance as most creditable, and he had been very pleased with the outcome. The squad had progressed from a very good first leg starting point of eighth, and he felt that they had been consistent right throughout a tightly fought contest at the front end of a field of 38 finishing clubs. All four runners had been amongst the fastest of their legs. North East rivals Durham City finished fifteenth in 45m03s, with Dan Jenkin being their fastest, 10m28s, coming home just ahead of Floyd.
