Northumberland Schools Minor Track and Field Championships

Morpeth Harriers provided three event winners at the annual Northumberland Schools Minor Track and Field Championships, held at Gateshead Stadium on Saturday 22nd June 2019.

After winning his heat of the Year 7 Boys 100m in an excellent 13.3s,
Owen Omoigui proved to be too good for all his rivals in the later run final, which he won in a modest 13.8s.

Also competing in the heats was fellow Morpeth Harrier Elliott Mavir,
who posted a time of 14.8s, finishing sixth in the opening heat of two.

Year 7 Girl Hannah Lott was a comfortable winner of the 70m Hurdles final in 11.8s, after winning her heat in 11.9s.

Year 8 Boy Dan Waddington certainly had a good day, winning both the
Discus and Hammer events, with best throws of 23.20m and 21.85m respectively.

Finishing second to Waddington in the Discus, was fellow Morpeth Harrier Edward Gardiner,
who was not far behind with his best throw of 22.95m.

Gardiner also finished third in the Javelin (27.81m),
with fellow Morpeth Harrier Harry Brown, not far adrift in fourth spot with 27.67m.
Brown also enjoyed some success on the track, finishing second in the 200m final, posting a time of 26.4s.

In the Year 8 Boys 1500m, Morpeth Harriers had four athletes in very prominent positions.
Bertie Marr finished second in 4m36.9s, and Ryan Davies was not far behind in third place in 4m39.0s.
Liam Roche and Joe Dixon finished fifth and sixth with respective times of 4m45.9s, and 4m46.3s.

Year 7 Throws specialist Georgia Turner performed really well, finishing second in the Discus,
producing a best throw of 17.64m, and in the Javelin, she threw 19.53m, finishing third.

Victoria Hodgson finished second in the Year 7 Girls 100m in a time of 13.9s,
and fellow Morpeth Harrier Freya Caygill finished fourth in 14.3s.

Hodgson also qualified for the 200m final, where she finished third in 29.1s,
​and fellow Morpeth Harrier Hannah Lott finished fourth in 30.1s.
