The heavy snowfall that hit the region between last Wednesday evening and Thursday,
which subsequently turned to severe Ice, put paid to the bulk of the area’s
Park Run’s on Saturday 20th January 2018, with the only exception being Newbiggin by the Sea,
which surprisingly escaped the worst, and managed to put on an event,
which attracted a total of 235 hardy finishers, who were led home by Morpeth Harrier
Mark Snowball, posting a new best for the 5k circuit, of 17m51s.
Snowball finished four seconds ahead of Blyth Running Clubs’ Joe Wren,
with Morpeth youngster Tom Balsdon, who had won the event the previous week,
finishing third, also producing new figures of 18m11s.
Five seconds behind Tom in fourth place was club colleague Liam Marsh.
Another prominent Morpeth finisher was Jake Masterman, who finished seventh, posting a time of 19m12s.
Also in the Field was Morpeth’s Ella Duffield, who was third Female
finisher in 41st place overall, posting a finishing time of 23m07s.
