Twelve athletes from Morpeth Harriers were in action at a sunny Monkton Stadium, Jarrow, for the third North Eastern Grand Prix Meeting, held on Wednesday 26th June 2019. The main event for Senior, Junior, and Under 17 competitors, both Male and Female, was the Stan Long Mile, run in honour of Brendan Foster’s former Gateshead Coach and Mentor, and in line with the annual Anniversary of legendary Roger Bannister’s Iffley Road triumph of achieving the first ever four minute mile. Five of Morpeth Harriers twelve took part in the five races, with the fastest being Under 20 Man Kieran Hedley, who finished third in the fastest race, posting a new personal best time of 4m15.6s, taking almost seventy five seconds off his previous figures for the distance, achieved at Hexham at a BMC event in 2012, when he had been a mere twelve year old. Club colleague Alistair Douglass was also in action in Race 1, finishing eleventh in 4m33.7s. The Stan Long Trophy was presented to Jarrow and Hebburn’s Chris Parr, who won the event in 4m11.0s, just outpacing Birtley’s Adrian Bailes, who in turn, just outpaced Hedley. Rachelle Falloon of Morpeth produced new figures of 5m15.3s, when finishing eighth in the fourth race of miles, taking almost forty seconds off her previous best, achieved at Whitley Bay in 2017. Two Morpeth Harriers competed in the fifth race and running the distance for the very first time. In her second outing of this year’s track campaign, Under 20 athlete Gracie Hufton finished seventh, posting a time of 5m48.8s, and Tayla Murdy finished eleventh in 6m04.8s. Three Morpeth Harriers were in action in the Junior Graded 800m events. Posting a new personal best time of 2m17.9s, Under 15 Boy Ryan Davies finished ninth in the fastest race. Two places behind him was fellow Morpeth Harrier, and Under 15 Boy Bertie Marr, who was just outside his personal best with 2m22.1s. In the second fastest race, Under 15 Girl Abi Leiper posted a new
lifetime personal best of 2m24.8s, when finishing third. Three Morpeth Harriers were in action in the Senior Graded 200m events. In the second fastest race, Sam Yates and Robbie Anderson finished second and fourth, posting respective times of 24.8s and 25.1s. Morpeth Under 17 Woman Abbie Ross posted new figures of 28.4s, when finishing second in the fourth fastest event. Ross also found time to take part in the Graded Long Jump event, where she achieved an on the night best of 4.57m. The clubs other Field Event specialist in action at the meeting Bobbie Griffiths, threw an on the night best of 38.73m, to finish as first Woman in the Senior Graded Javelin. Comments are closed.
