In his first major competition since linking up with Morpeth Harriers and Throws Coach Paul Reed,
Craig Charlton excelled in finishing a good third behind recent North Eastern Counties Indoor Shot Putt Champion Alan Toward of Enfield and Haringey, and Northern Counties Indoor Shot Putt Silver Medallist Tom Kirk of Sheffield & Dearne, in the prestigious Steel Cup Indoor Championships, held at Sheffield Arena on Wednesday 10th February 2016. Charlton, stationed at Boulmer, and also representing the RAF, putted a distance of 12.60m, which ranks him just inside the Top 40 for 2016, and under Reed’s direction, hopes to greatly improve on this throughout the year of competition. He hopes to turn out as often as he can for Morpeth Harriers during their forthcoming Summer Track and Field campaign, and former North East Champion Reed describes him as a bright prospect, and sees him fitting in quite well in his club’s current set up.
