Morpeth Harrier Scott Beattie was forced to sit out this weekend’s
English Schools Cross Country Championships, which perhaps robbed him of a chance of yet another medal winning opportunity. Under a UK Athletics directive, the Under 20 Inter Counties Silver and Northern Gold medallist was rested from competition in preparation for his forthcoming date in Kampala, Uganda this Sunday 26th March, when he is scheduled to line up in Great Britain’s Junior Men’s squad in the prestigious World Cross Country Championships. Alongside Beattie in a very strong squad will be Inter Counties Champion Jonathan Shields of Sheffield and Dearne, Ben Davies of Bedford, Derby’s Hugo Milner, Sam Stevens of Leicester, and Luke Prior of Wells City. It is hoped that the sextet will bring back team medals, alongside strong individual performances. Although a little disappointed about having missed out on Norwich, Beattie remains upbeat about his chances on the slightly larger stage, and is keenly looking forward to the challenge of what will be his first great honour, in his yet young and very illustrious athletic career. His club and the nation, wish both him and his colleagues best of luck on a superb occasion. Comments are closed.
